Launching a New Web Project: Essay Outliner

Monday, November 10th, 2008

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I’ve been developing another site for the past few weeks and it’s now ready to go live. I present the Essay Outliner.

Free Essay Outliner is a simple tool that will help anyone outline a standard five paragraph essay. All you need to do is input the data in the form such as: main thesis, idea 1, idea 2… etc and then a script will compile the data and present sentence by sentence instructions on how to write your essay.

This is a very simple, yet invaluable tool that I wish I had while going through cool. It’s perfect for young students whom are still trying to understand how to structure an essay or for seasoned college students who don’t have time to do the legwork. This could conceivably help you outline blog articles as well. The possibilities are endless.

I hope to develop more sophisticated tools based on this concept (such as a term paper outliner) in the future, but for now, this tool does the job simply: outline an essay.

Book Update: Chapter 1

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

After days of fiddling and pondering, I’ve managed to sit down a rewrite the first chapter of my novel. I pretty much gutted it from before, simplifying it and make it quicker to read.

I’m pretty happy with it so far. It’s small progress, but I’m slowly getting back into the groove. Tomorrow, I’ll approach Chapter 2, which won’t need much changing but needs to be heavily tweaked.

It feels good to be doing this again.

In other developments, I’ve finally developed the Projects page and the Blogs page. That way if anyone is interested in what I currently have going on, they can take a look.

Major Changes

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

I’ve decided to retool my personal website and make it more of a portal to all my current interests and projects.

I’ve ditched iWeb and gone for something a little more robust; Wordpress combined with the Gallery 2 plugin to display my pictures. I’ve never done some of this stuff before but I’m getting a hang of it. I already like how things are turning out.

iWeb was great when I was just starting out in building websites. But I quickly realized that it was cumbersome and didn’t do exactly what I wanted it to do. After seeing the light and learning about Content Management Systems, I figured it was time to put my new found knowledge to work.

I considered using Drupal for this site and I’ve successfully used it in the past. But Drupal takes too much work to customize and getting it to do what I want can be a challenge. I’m short on time these days, so Wordpress it is.

I’m also looking forward to having a more general interest blog where I can spout off on whatever I want. Most of my other blogs are focused on one or two topics and I prefer to keep them that way. I may write about other things that interest me, like sci-fi or even politics. We’ll see.

Enjoy!
